Mr. Thoman is revamping the Technology Department Website. He has also created several new technology tutorials and linked them to this new site. The past Tech Tip Tuesday blog and Mr. Walker’s Technology Blog are posted here as well. Many more resources and links will be added soon.
What to do…
Navigate to the Massac Unit 1 website (http://www.massac.org) and click the Massac Tech Department Link on the left. Suggest a tutorial for the site by emailing a topic that you are having difficulty with to jthoman@massac.org.
This Tuesday’s tech tip is Apples iTunes U. It is a free service from many schools, and
universities across the world. You may find videos and audio content there. This week
Cambridge University is celebrating “Science Week” and have some content on there page
relating to that. The only you need is a Broadband connection somewhere, Windows XP, and
iTunes. Apple iTunes is a free download from http://www.apple.com/itunes. Once you are
in iTunes, click on the iTunes store and wait for that to load up. Once in the store,
look on the left hand side and you should see iTunes U.
Also if you are looking for relatively inexpensive content for you classes, iTunes has
videos from the History Channel and many other channels for 1.99 each.

Did you know…
There is a wealth of free teaching resources on the web. The Public Broadcasting Service has devoted an entire section of their website to teachers and resources for teachers. You can view these resources at: http://www.pbs.org/teachers/ and http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/programs/index.html
What to do…
First, take a look at the PBS sites to for examples of the type of resources that are available. Try using Google to search for other teaching resources. If you find some good sites, please share them by either emailing them to a tech team member or posting them as comment to the Tech Tip Tuesday Blog located at: http://www.massac.org/technology.php
Did you know…
A Blog or Weblog is a web page containing brief, chronologically arranged items of information that viewers can add postings to. Blogs provide a communication space that teachers can utilize with students whenever there is a curriculum need to develop or share ideas and reflect on work being undertaken in the classroom. This electronic post is far more advantageous than direct email communication between student and teacher because other students have the ability to view the posts.
What to do…
First, take a look at Mr. Walker’s Technology Blog at: http://www.massac.org/techedblog/ or the MCHS Student News Blog at: http://www.mchs1.massac.k12.il.us/student/ to familiarize yourself with the technology. If you have a need for a blog for your classroom, please send an email to a tech team member. We will create the blog and schedule training for you and your students.
